  • I was traveling in Japan. I knew a very limited amout of Japanese, but I could communicate barley with some Japanese, a little English, and a lot of hand gestures and pointing. I had traveled down to Tokoshima Island by ferry. But the return ferry was in a different location then where I was dropped off. I had a phone but could only use wifi. So i pulled up a map at my hotel and started walking (with my heavy luggage backpack) toward where I thought the ferry was. It was also really hot, so I went slow. The map was hard to follow and I wasn't sure if the ferry was on one side of the bridge or the other. If I were to go the wrong direction it would take too long and I would miss the boat. The ferry only took off about every two days. So I got really frustrated and sat down to study the map. I was essentially in the middle of nowhere. There wasn't anyone around to ask for directions either. But I had sat down in front of some sort of building with laborors inside. Some came out for a break or something. They noticed me and came over to me to ask if I needed help. At that point I was crying. I wiped my tears and they figured out where I needed to go. At this point I would not have made it if I walked. So they said get in our car and we'll take you there. There was about 5 of them. Perhapps I should not get in stranger's cars, but they seemed so nice and I really wanted to leave that day. So I trusted them and they speeded to the ferry. I made it just in time! I was so thankful to those wonderful men! There was many other very nice and helpful people in Tokoshima! Perhapps because they don't see as many foreingers down there. In general people seemed warmer and more willing to communicate than in Tokyo, even though they knew less English.

  • Awe… I really enjoy your videos. With the exception of Canada I haven’t been anywhere outside of the US. But visiting Japan is at the top of my bucket list.

  • Understanding english is already a big step. I think most of the japanese people are just shy, but they are so kind and hardworking though to even stop and spare time for these two.. 😊😊😊😊😊

  • My family and I have been to Tokyo twice. When we needed directions, many would help us and try to speak English as well as they could. Even with our limited Japanese, we have been able to communicate. I enjoyed both visits and cannot wait for our next one.
